$1,000 College Arts Scholarship 

The Chequamegon Bay Arts Council is pleased to announce the availability of a $1,000 college scholarship.  The purpose of this scholarships is to acknowledge the past accomplishment and future promise of a high school graduate who will enter a field of study leading to a career in the arts.

Eligibility. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be a high school senior graduating in spring 2017.
  • Reside and attend high school in Ashland or Bayfield County.
  • Plan to enroll in a higher education course of study leading to a career in visual, literary, or performing arts. 
  • Submit all materials described in the application form.

Amount and Terms of Acceptance. The Chequamegon Bay Arts Council will award one $1,000 scholarships to a student from an Ashland or Bayfield County high school.  The scholarship will be disbursed as a personal check once proof of enrollment is provided.

Application Process:

  •  Cover Sheet - Download application cover page   
  • A completed application will include:
    • A completed cover page
    • At least 2 letters of reference
    • Attachment A - One sheet describing past arts experience.
    • Attachment B - One sheet describing future college plans.
    • Attachment C - A portfolio pertinent to the applicant's field of study (as described below)

  • Visual Artists - Attach at least 8 and no more than 15 works of art produced solely by the applicant.  Format may be photographs, slides, digital images on CD in Macintosh compatible format, or originals if in a size and format that is easy to transport and handle.
  • Performing Artists – A one-page detailed description of your approach to a performance, your preparation to perform, and how that preparation informs what you actually do onstage.   Option:  This may be supplemented with a CD or DVD that includes your work, stills, or other materials that represent your work.
  • Literary Artists – Attach a description of your writing experiences and include at least one sample of an original literary piece.

To submit an application: Mail the completed application to CBAC Scholarship, P.O. Box 25, Washburn, WI  54891.  Applications must be postmarked no later than Saturday, April 30, 2017. 

Announcement Date:  Recipients will be notified by May 15, 2017.  CBAC will contact high schools to present the award at pre-graduation award ceremonies.
